The rear axil shaft on my John Deere x304 is leaking oil at the left rear wheel. The oil must be coming from the transmission. Any helpful hints on replacing the oil seal?

Not really, just get stuck in!
But then again, perhaps a John Deere specialist will have a tip that I am unaware of.
