Is your mowing season over now ?

It is for me.

This morning I've been a busy bee "winterising" things

I took everything out of the shed, vacuumed it (probably filled the whole bag up with the amount of dirt there was on the carpet!), fired the Lawn Mower up & tied an old wrist watch around the Dead Man's Handle so I could walk away from it and keep on working while it ran itself out of gas, put everything back in the shed, put the mower in the shed when it stalled, checked my shed roof for leaks - of which there were none , then I fixed the locks on the garage doors, as two of the bolt locks had broken off and meant the doors were about 5" open - not good when the snow comes! So I put new screws in them and realigned the catches, checked the doors sealed good enough to keep rain and snow out - which they did, and got in the house, turned the laptop on and started typing this very, very long paragraph!

Right... So, is your mowing season over ? And have you "winterised" your things ?

No.. around here the grass is still growing but just slower. I had a delightful weekend a few days ago mowing and burning brush. I still do some mowing every week but it's not as if it has to be done right away or the place will be overgrown.

Here in the Deep South, we mow from early March until mid-December -- or something like that.

Actually, there's always some brush mowing to be done -- only because I never really finish.

Mine is just getting started. The Fescue just came out of dormancy and the weather is right for growing.

I'll mow all winter.

Wow, I'm glad I'm in Scotland then!

July-October mowing - Suits me fine!

I get good mowing pleasure for the best and warmest part of summer, and get to stay in when it is cold.

Ahh, yeah!

With all the rain We have had,:frown: the Massey is just to heavy to do any mowing. Clean up the deck and got the tractor ready for pushing snow. Will have to mow one more time after all the leaves have fallen from the trees and will just use the smaller mowers to finish that.

Still mowing. Usually into November. But by that time it's more for leaves than grass. I have mowed my homes lawn in December and it needed it. Seems like there is no more fall or spring. Goes from cold to hot in a matter of couple weeks.

"THIS MORNING''......:laughing::laughing::laughing::laughing: I have been busy THE LAST THREE WEEKS STRAIGHT trying to prepare for winter...if I wrote down everything I have done so far it would take you an hour to read it all...just serviced my GMC and when I get back I will note what I have done the last two days alone !!!!

Most years, the week of Thanksgiving is when my season is done.
Have mowed as late as Christmas Eve one year.

Normally, I don't do much of anything to prepare equipment for winter.

We have been having some rain so I shut off the sprinklers two weeks ago and have only ran them once since. Lawn needs a mow but I have a good feeling it will be the final mow of the season.

Hopefully I can get around to that this weekend.

If I spent less time on this forum, maybe I'd get some work done! :anyone:

last time i mowed the lawn was in beginning sept, thank God its over till mid may:licking:Can't say i enjoy it to much.
Winterizing the lawn tractor consist out of, park it somewhere out the way in the shed, just shutting it down and take the battery out so it don't freeze.
It'll fire up come may without a problem on the first try since it allways done that for the last 16 yrs.
I never had a problem with the gas going bad.

Yeah, I know what you mean...

I still make sure I run my mower out of gas before storing it for more than a month, just in case, but I once left it sitting for 1 month & 1 week with a full tank when the weather took a bad turn and the grass suddenly slowed, and when I took it out, I gave it three primes of the primer bulb, and it fired up on the first pull with no smoke or signs of misfiring etc...

I'd say you could leave fuel in a mower for at least 2 months, but if the manufacturers want to say 30 days, so be it, but I'll take it with a pinch of grass seed

Thanks for the photo of the old Lawn-Boy. I've never seen that model and would like to see more pictures of it. What is the model number?

I'm still mowing but the grass is growing very slowly so it's more of a leaf-pickup thing.

Here in the Pac Northwest, the mowing season is pretty much over, BUT, the leaf clean-up season is in full swing.
With the variety of different trees, I will continue to pick up leaves untill almost Christmas.
The Maples are done, the Oaks and Alders are almost finished but the Apple and Poplars still have lots of leaves.
I'm really thankful for my Cyclone rake!

Yeah, I miss getting my Mountfield out weekly to cut the grass, but she's sitting in the shed now with no fuel, and probably enjoying the break.

The very first day the grass starts growing again, and I'll be getting her out, filling the fuel tank up and getting back into the mowing season with my reliable mower.

Yep, those two words in the same sentence - Reliable, mower

Here in NY the mowing season is over. Just did my last mower repair job for the season, installed a used carburetor on a John Deere B&S engine and mowed my front yard to test it but lawn didn't need mowing. My snow blower is all serviced and ready to go. Calling for snow by the end of this week, but sure hope they aer wrong.

Hi All

Next week going to do the last one , it's forecast to be 50 or 60 next week and all the leaves have falling now so we can do the last mowing of the year. I think it was in Aug the last time i mowed it's been so dry here that we haven't need to mow. It could use a mowing now. Then when the mower is all warmed up it's time to change the oil and oil filter with fresh oil. And put a new air filter on to, get it ready for next year mowing clean up deck new blades next year i think there isn't to much to sharpen now.:licking:

As for us, we have entered the "blow the property , then cut the lawn phase". We do not cut route anymore, too many leaves. We do a final cutting after the last cleanup. We usually blow each property at least four or five times each leaf season.

I haven't mowed any yards since last Sunday :frown::thumbdown:, but luckily I have one to do tomorrow. I don't know what I will do in the winter!! I will do everyone's yards twice more.....one this coming week (since it will be in the 60's this weekend), and one around Dec. 1.

T

we usually finish our season the 1st or 2nd week in Dec. But all bets are off now that hurricane Sandy has left a wake of destruction here in southwestern CT. We are cutting up fallen trees and doing cleanups at the same time. A lot of work. But very sad to see so many old growth trees destroyed. Also many of our customers lost power, had cars destroyed. We even had two people die in our area. Hard to be worried about landscaping when some people lost so much.

Thank you LMFanatic, I really appreciate that. I find that our company has now become not only a landscape company, but a grief counseling service as well. One of our customers had her home flooded by the storm surge. We were bailing water out of her cars, and totally mopping her floors in different parts of her home. We had crews repairing her landscape, and her home. We are not a cleaning service, but how can you say no? We spent over a week there. We have a least one or two more weeks till we finish. We will just have to be behind the 8 ball till we finish our year.
