I want to lay out some garden beds next year, and I want to know how much mulch I should lay.I read somewhere that 300 sq ft of bed = mulch 4 inches thick. So that's about 1 yard per 85 sq ft I believe. Does that sound about right?
To me the amount of mulch would depend on the type and condition of your soil. Take a sample to your local ag dept and ask them what you need to do to your soil for the best production of the typr garden that you are planting.
What we do is buy it by the truckload. We get a load and then put it in the bed. I can't tell you how much we use per square foot, we just put it on evenly. Use enough to keep the weed down but not too much so the flowers can come out.
