Hi folks!
I have a Ariens Rocket rear tine tiller which is equipped with a Tecumseh HH70 engine.
The motor has a broken connecting rod I think(I've yet to to tear it down) ... and I looked up the part # 32591C on Jack's site and it shows a new part # 510222 as a replacement part #
The listing shows that part to fit a H70 but does not list the HH70 model

Then when I checked MFG Supply they show part # 32591C to cross over to a part # of 23-6769
That page shows both the HH70 and H70 on the compatible use list.

So I am confused which is the real deal correct rod for my HH70?

I am wondering now also about the piston if I may need one for my HH70.. I am thinking the gaskets for the HH70 and the H70 are the same..

Can anyone shed some light on this issue for me?

FWIW - the H stands for horizontal shaft. The HH stands for horizontal heavy duty (cast iron ).

Thanks for the replies.. but still even looking at the links provided I am still uncertain if the rods and piston are interchangeable between the two models.
Even in the links Boobalo posted.. the HH70 is not included in their respective lists of compatible models for the part #'s

I found this post from a few years ago.. and if you read it you will find this statement..

"H and HH70's were dimensionally the same, but had a 2.750" bore, different stroke, rod, piston...in fact you could even put the 8hp HM80 rod in it with little work.."

THIS, should be your manual, ( O/H ) see page 83 . info on the con. rod .........

Hi Scott,

Try parts tree.com. Click on Tecumseh, then 4 cycle horizontal, once there on the right search box, enter HH70.

Bummer,,,looks like the connecting rod is not available for either H70 or HH70 engine (at least on parts tree.com).

I called Tulsa Small Engine Warehouse and they confirmed my suspicions..
The H70 & HH70 pistons and rods are different.

They have the rod I need in stock!!

Scott, .... you may want to do your tear-down BEFORE ordering your parts, looking at the IPB you might have the "off-set con rod" ..?? and you might need to replace other parts , ( oil dipper, plate, nuts, etc. ) just a thought, but it's a lot easier NOT to have to return, or re-order correct parts, also..

TAKE lots of pics during DIS-assembly, it will save you many headaches, during reassembly just trying to help ya there buddy ! .. :thumbsup:

I agree with Boobala,,,perform the teardown before ordering parts. You may find so many other parts that needs replacing, it may be cheaper to get a replacement engine from Harbor Freight or small engine warehouse.

There is a guy on YouTube that goes by the name of 65ford that does lots of small engine repair vids. He said an excellent source of a good used engine are from pressure washers as the pumps fail frequently. Check Craigslist.

I appreciate the posts replies..
I built lots of motors over the 40 or so years.. from my first little 1 hp Briggs when I was like 8 or so to the racing bikes and drag cars I've campaigned over the years....so I have a good base of experience in this stuff..
But I don't know everything.. and thus my questioning posts..
The fact ya'll posted great advice shows this forum is a good place for folks of all ages and experience.. the welcoming attitudes are very much appreciated.
As for swapping out the motor.. I am determined to keep this one OEM... I love restoring stuff and they don't make cast iron small engines anymore.. so this one is cool piece to do.
I really did not know much about these particular model Tecumseh motors so this one kinda threw me for a loop..
