Help IDing a LB Find

I bought three Lawn Boys at an estate auction yesterday for $145. A 1999 10324, a a 1987 8073, and an 8291, with a serial number that starts with B. The Shoplawnboy site shows '84 and '85 8291 units, but with "C" and "D" serial numbers. Any ideas?

I'm still trying to start the 8291, the others fired right up!

Hello, nice find. I thought you made a typo on the 10324 (thought it should be 10323), but you're correct. Lawn-Boy made a ton of different models for any given year. You could ask Lawn-Boy via email what the C and D mean. My LawnBoy mechanics handbook stops at 1982. The mower on the left has a Duraforce engine, the two next to it have F engines.

My guess would be that your 8291 is a late 1983 model, kinda like how automobile manufactures roll out the new year models in September or so. I remember some of the former employees at Galesburg confirming that on one of these type forums. I was restoring a 1966 model 5234 and noted that on the inside of the shroud it had a date stamp of around November of 1965. I asked the question and the answer I got was just that, they said new model year mower production would begin in the summer of the previous year and would be ready for sale late that year.

Thanks Lawnboy77. That makes sense. I also have a 6262 Commercial unit that seems to fall into the same scenario. I'm working on both and trying to make sure i am ordering the correct equipment.

In searching the Lawn-Boy parts site the 10324 show a C in the serial number also. Looks like the C denoted a different final assembly location 104-7653 vs 104-7651. Canada perhaps?
