Engine head gaskets

I'm replacing a leaking head gasket on a BS twin on my L 120. the new gasket differs slightly... one side is a flat surface that is textured. The other side is also textured but has a raised surface . Does it matter which side goes against the block? Thanks art

no.
The differences are just a result og the manufaturing process.
The raised side will tend to stick so I put it to the head because it is easier to clean stuck gasket off the head than the block.
