got a mufler question for a 8 hp tecumseh engine on a old sears mower

i'm back. Engine is fixed and running again but it is still loud . I have the "original" Tecumseh muffler that bolts on with 2 bolts on a flange and I tried replacing it with a cheap inline muffler that screws into a 1/2" pipe Thread. None of the mufflers on the web indicate how much decibel reduction I can expect.

When I had the engine repaired the mechanic put the old Tecumseh bolt on muffler back on instead of the new aftermarket one i picked up at TSC ( tractor supply company) for less than $10. It just screws on. Ive searched the web and looked at utube for home made mufflers.

the home made mufflers all require welding which is out of my league. Also on some of the home made units the builders reported that after all their work theyjust looked neater but did not seem to improve the sound

Looking at walk behind mowers and some riders they seem to have a pretty complex package that mounts in front of the engine.

My tecumseh has a side exhaust port with bolt holes or a 1/2" pipe thread.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks
