gas in oil

I have an older Ferris 61" with a 17 hp Kawasaki engine. It starts and runs well. The problem is that it is getting gas in the oil. If the fuel solenoid is faulty, can gas get into the cylinder thru the carb and past the rings to end up in the crankcase? Thanks , gregjo1948

Fuel solenoid stops fuel passing into the main jet and stops the engine venting unburned fuel vapour wile it is still rotating after you turn it off.
A bad float valve seal allows fuel to fill the float chamber then flow through the float bowl air vent into the engine where it trickles down into the cylinder, past the piston rings then fills the crank .
So it is carb cleaning / rebuild time for you.
