Hi,Mike in Greensboro,NC.I was given my 1st Stihl in Aug.(2017).It wouldn't do more than idle.Repairman took the spark arrestor out and BAM!!!! Like new money.Only thing,it is louder. So what I wanna know is...how do I put a new 1 on.Since i'm new to this, can somebody give me step-by-step instructions? Im a quick learner.Thanks.

Could only find this info,

Stihl is a %$@*^%$#$ company that that is VERY captive on their product info. as soon as some outfit posts info. Stihl shuts it down, this came from a British..?? source .. soon to be gone also ! copy all you can. although not shown in parts numbers I think # 3 is the arrestor , must then come with the muffler as an assy. ..not sure ! That muffler may also be used on other Stihl Products,..chainsaw,etc. ..GOOD LUCK !!!

:welcome:
It is a dead easy job.
Buy a new screen and exhaust gasket.
Remove the muffler.
The screen , part 3 slides in under the outlet and is retained by the self tapper part 4
Usually excessive noise come from not replacing the gasket Part 6
FS 70.jpg
That fixes the problem ,not to fix the source.

The screen cloggs up from carbon deposits.
Either from excessive idleing
Excessive oil in the mix
carb set too rich.
Not running flat chat
Using too heavy string causing trimmer to labour
or any combination of the above.

The screen is easy removed and cleaned with a few strokes of a wire brush.
Brass suede shoe brushes work best.
Do not use a wire wheel on any device other then a Dremel type mini tool.

Thanks Boobala,i've seen where if you DON'T have torch you can soak the screen in gas then scrub a couple of times.Didn't know about the exhaust gasket. Now I do.Great help, thank you.
