Greetings!

some months ago I started a thread about a hard starting 21 hp kawa. Received some interesting replies, tried a couple suggestions but didn't cure the hard starting engine. I did notice that when I hooked up an aux battery it usually started right away. The battery in the machine "cub Cadet ztm" was new but not a high cold crank amp. I purchased the highest cca battery I could find and it cured the hard starting problem. Let me state right away that the cranking speed with the new battery is no faster that with the original battery. I'm old enough to remember Tom McCahill writing in Mechanix Illustrated. He claimed the hard starting Chrysler's of the 1950's was due to the starter motors drawing so many amps there was nothing left for the ignition. Comments welcome.

:welcome:

Well for starters it is not a 1950's Chrysler

You have a magneto ignition which is self enegrgising.

Secondly we need your engine numbers in order to give you valid information
Lastly we need a far better decsription of your symptoms than difficult to start.
Cranks 300 times before it fires ?
Cranks slowly ?
Cranks lumpy ?
Fires on 1 pot for a long time before the engine actually catches & runs ?
Blows a lot of black smoke the instant it starts?
