Hello,
I'm working on an 18hp Briggs & Stratton Vanguard V-Twin. Model # 350777-1137-E1.
The engine I'm working had issues - the crankshaft ground into the bearing surface on the oil sump ruining it. I found a doner engine with a good sump/oil pump.
So I'm attempting to put the new oil sump on this engine. I put on a new crankshaft oil seal and used an OEM B&S gasket. After putting the sump on and torquing the bolts to the specified torque I tested the crankshaft for end play and there is ZERO. No movement on the crankshaft at all; the service manual I'm using calls for 0.003 - 0.015" of play.
Aside from taking the sump to a machine shop and having the bearing surface shaved what other options do I have? Does Briggs and Stratton sell a thicker gasket to get the required endplay? Looking for ideas. Thanks for your help.
Added a couple of photos of the crankshaft and sump.
