I prime the carb then then start but engine dies after running very briefly was told might be fuel filter but cannot find filter; wonder if is in tank itself or in line as it enters carb? Seems like other posts indicate possibly carb needle is cause ?

Could just be dirt in the carb.
The main jet is the bowl nut and they can clog up with dirt.
Give it a good clean.
Some tecumseh's do have little metal filters that are in the fuel pipe themselves.
Take pipe off and try a see if a screwdriver go's all the way.
If not a filter will be in there so try and push it out but id clean carb aswell.
If you can't get Ethanol Free fuel purchase an ethanol treatment such as K100, StarTron or Stabil (Ethanol formula, not the red stuff). But K100 is the best. PM me for more info if interested. I can point you in the right direction for K100.
