Usually the first thing to go out is the voltage regulator/rectifier/diode. I am assuming you checked the fuses. We need the engine numbers. Some have their recifier as a small square box sealed in epoxy. Some have an inline diode which is just a small fitting that resembles a red wire connector.
Thanks Chance 123 Checked Fuse ok - circuit is continuous since I see a negative draw on ammeter when I try to start. Cannot locate diode-rectifier and it is not shown on parts breakdown list - but it is on the schematic.
Engine is Briggs Stratton Model 31C7070230 Type E1 Code 0307.14ZA 17.5 hp
Sometime in the past I found Serial # 080803C011668 Would really like to find that diode/rectifier
Found the alternator discharge wires but there is no diode/regulator. Talked to Sears - they said not all models have diode/regulators. I will measure the alternator dischrge voltage( 14 AC). Suspect it is the alrternator. I 'd have to buy a flywheel puller ( Expensive ? ) Is it difficult to remove and reinstall the flywheel ?
Thank You !
