Briggs/Dihatsu 950G starter - OEM or aftermarket?

Any one have experiences with after marker starters for these engines? new starter is $300 from briggs and $380 from Ventrac. Lots of aftermarket stuff online. Is this is a scenario where you get what you pay for? The old starter has no identifying info on it at all, which makes me think it's aftermarket too.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

Kev

If you're close to a city of any size, say 40,000 or more, there is probably a starter/alternator rebuild shop in it.

Have one of them rebuild your OEM starter, unless it went up in flames.

I had a $400 Acura starter rebuilt for ~$240, but that included a $140 Winchester .22 rifle that I bought from a gun shop while I was killing the one hour it took the shop to rebuild the starter.

That's a great day right there.

I ended up getting an OEM Briggs. I'm 99% certain that what I took out was aftermarket because there were no numbers or any info on it at all. I'll do the OEM this time and rebuild it next time. $280 though, pretty expensive. It had better be on my Ventrac when I sell it.............or die. :)

Thanks for your reply
