I have a Craftsman LT1000 and I've been having engine problems for a while. I recently re-built the card and fuel pump and because I had gas spewing into the air filter compartment and was advised it was probably a carb issue. I started the engine today and it was smoking for the first couple of minutes but then seemed to be clearing up, however after about another minute oily gas started spewing out of the flexible hose that goes up into the air filter compartment. At that point I shut the engine down

Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks for your help!

That is the breather tube venting the crank case.
You might have one or more of the following
1) Too much fluid in the crankcase
2) blown head gasket
3) bad seal on the rings
4) bad seal on the valve stems.
