I have a 3.5hp engine 95202 5105-01 from about 1982.
The original carb did not have a primer bulb but was replaced (by a local dealer) with a primer model. That worked fine for years.
Due to bad starting and weak primer I stripped the carb, cleaned all and replaced the diaphragm and gasket. Engine started but VERY rough and uncontrollable so then I played with the governor spring (yep - not a good idea!) and now have to buy a new one. B&S site does not list the partnum for the correct spring but visually it looks like 260877 (now nil stock).

The question:
Every video I see about this engine type seems to show both a carb spring and a governor spring.
Question: When did B&S change from one spring to two and should I have 2 springs on my engine?
Any help would be appreciated
Thanks
Mik

I don’t know what videos you are watching or where you got that part number,, but from what I find they are not right. From the IPL for your engine, there should be only one governor spring, part number 261105.

Many thanks for your reply. Will get myself one.
For my interest, where did you get that info?
Is the difference between similar springs (e.g. 261106, 261106, 260877) the spring strength?

Yes they will have different spring rates (strengths).
