Am I wrong to think this a choke or prime problem? How does the auto choke work? 6.75 Briggs. sn above.

Your engine has used the manual choke, the primer system and the autochoke, so which system do you have. The ipl doesn't define which one you have. Also what is the temperature at the time you are trying to start them mower.

ILENGINE thanks for the reply. there is no choke cable nor primer bulb and the temp has been in the 40s and 50s. But even when its in the 70s it would take 4-5 pulls to start when cold. Once it warms up it starts on the first pull.

Being in the 40-50's they can be a bear to start. At 70 should be easier to start. Sounds like a choke issue. I just got done dealing with a Kohler rider engine this week that couldn't be started below 40 without either spraying carb cleaner or starting fluid in the intake. At about 45 degrees would fire right off. Make sure the choke is closing all the way. Doesn't take much sometimes to makes things go goofy..

ILENGINE you nailed it the autochoke linkage was binding. I freed up the linkage and put a little more tension on the return spring and it starts great even in the 40s.
Thank you!
