25 hp kohler motor oil

Is it OK to use 15/40 Deisel oil in my 25 hp gas Kohler. The dealer recommended it because of a popping sound from the valves. I asked a JD dealer about it and they said absouletly not.

Kohler recommends 10W-30, I would at Keith that.

I use Rotella 15w40 in every engine I own. (For at least the last 20 years) I've never had to rebuild an engine yet.
However, if it makes you feel better, stick to the manufacturers recommendation. No harm in that.
