Hey guys, John from Mississippi, first post, great looking forum you have here!

My dad's sister gave me a Murray that was smoking like crazy and running pretty poorly. Good looking machine, thought it would be a nice one to leave at my mother-in-law's place so I wouldn't have to trailer my craftsman back and forth to keep her big lawn cut.

Had oil in the air filter, pulled the head, sure enough blown gasket. Got it all cleaned up, new gasket should be in this week and we'll see what she'll do. Lapped the valves while I had it out too. I tried to pull the specs off the internet, but not sure I got the right ones.

Head bolts - 220 in-lbs ?
Valve adjuster lock screw (or whatever you call the little torx screw) ???
Exhaust/intake valves at about .004" each???

Any advice is greatly appreciated!!!

Thanks in advance - john

Whats your model, type, code of the engine?
Valve clearance could be .003 - .005 for inlet and .005 - .007 for exhaust.
The head bolt torque will be right. Remember to tighten in stages.
