Craftsman/Briggs and Straton won't start

OMG...My dad worked on small engines when he was younger so he helped me out a bit. He told me to take the spring off the brake plate and the brake started moving freely. He then told me to check the control arm and still nothing. after further inspection I noticed the control wire from the arm to the brake mechanism was slack...sure enough I pulled the broken wire from the sleeve. hmmph. Thank you for your input guys. It's nice to see something like this for future reference. I will surely need it again. Your guys were spot on and rock!! Thank you.
