Engine 18.5 hp john deere z225

I own a Z225 with a 18.5 engine. Had fuel gushing from carb. problem. Repaired it with a new needle and float. Now it occasionaly blows big clouds of blue smoke and has oil coming from fuel pump breather. Is the smoke from oil getting into the fuel and burning off? How is oil getting up into the fuel pump? The oil level is right on the mark.

Check crankcase pressure by starting the engine, set at 3/4 throttle, remove the dipstick and rest it on top of the tube. If it bounces up- down you probably have a blown head gasket causing you problem.
