John Deere 145 Lawn tractor stalling when blades engaged

I am having problems getting my mower to run, when I engage blades the mower will die, then I disconnected the connection to the blade clutch, when I tested the power wire with a test light then pulled the blade engagement switch the engine would die. I cut the wires to the blade clutch started the engine jumped 12 v to the clutch when the blades engaged as then egine slows down from the initial jolt from the blades engaging the engine would run bad, barely idle and smoke really bad and stall unless blades are disengaged. After several attemps I finally noticed that fuel was trickling out I assume is air bleeds into the intake, if I pinch off the fuel line with pliers the engine will smooth out after 10 seconds or so, but as soon as you try to engage the blades it will do the same thing all over again.
