Hi everyone! My Lawn Boy is a 2-stroke, 3-speed walk behind purchased in 1990. It started today on the first pull after 3 months of storage, but 3rd gear just has been slipping. I will see you elsewhere in the Lawn Boy section when I post my question.

Welcome. Glad to have another Lawn Boy owner here!

nothing like the smell of 2-stroke smoke and fresh cut grass roasting on the muffler!

Well now that some of you know I joined this forum, let me tell you about my mower. I bought it for $20 off Craigslist. I was informed that it ran last season and would start this season. I brought the mower home and checked for spark in the darkness....I have spark..which was a good sign. The following day I checked the oil, cleaned out the carb, and float bowl. I refilled her with new 87 octane gas, primed her 5 times and attempted to start. On the 3rd pull she fired up and belched white smoke for a second and she was running!........Not bad 4 $20 bucks!

After that I did a oil change and took the mower blade in for sharpening and a new Champion J19LM sparkplug. I also picked up a used mulching plate and new drive belt. Upon installation of the belt I seen how rusty the deck was....yep a stamped steel deck. I called around and found a shop that would media blast my mower deck for $25 thats does both sides. I stripped the mower down and brought it in. The shop had it done in 30 min. I brought the deck home and treated the pitted areas with a chemical treatment. I washed the deck off, dried it, and hung it in the garage for painting. I coated the whole mower deck with self-etching primer, primer-filler, and primer sealer. After that I started spraying the GRABBER GREEN! I sprayed 2-3/4 cans worth of that and then sprayed 3/4 can of clear. I did this both to the deck and the engine cover. This mower looks almost like new.

This mower runs and looks 2 good to end up in the scrap yard. I'm going to try to post pics here. The only things i'm waiting on is the danger and HOC stickers. Although upon further examination found that the float bowl gasket leaks a little...it looks wet but no wet spots. I may look into a new carb....which by teh way anybody have suggestions to get a new 1? Here are some before and after pics.

Here are a couple of websites that sell Lawn-Boy parts:

PartsTree

Parts and Service

Great job on the cleaning and paint.

Thanks two-stroke! I have found that the previous owner of the mower damaged the govenor spring. The engine roars at full throttle, Hopefully thats normal on this 4 stroke. So now i'm looking to replace the spring too. I also got a $8.00 rebuild kit to rebuild the carb, and intake manifold gasket. Carb re-build....shhhh nothing to it! Now I need to know is those "Gator Blades" any good for mulching? "As compared to the orgional mower blade." Let me know.... thanks.
