First off I wanted to say thanks to those that have given me great advice in the past. I really appreciate it!

a friend of mine has a riding mower that was in a small grass fire, and pretty much the whole front end melted off. hood and most (if not all) of the plastic parts on the engine singed or completely gone

I believe the engine is a Briggs & Stratton 20 H.P. Intek OHV.

Is an engine burned like that salvageable? for example, are there kits out there I can buy to replace all the plastic components?

Any advice is always appreciated!

Almost all the engine parts should be available. I would go to the website for jacks small engine, where you should be able to see if the parts you need are available there. It should give you part number and approximate $$$$. If you need help post back.

I would think that it would be worthwhile to salvage, at least the engine. You should be able to find a parts diagram and get all the plastic parts. The more expensive cast metal parts in the engine should be perfectly fine. It shouldn't take you long to get an idea of cost.
