I was given an old JD 70 series garden tractor, made in '72 per the serial #, that is in decent shape body wise. The motor was locked up. I drained the oil which looked to be more like water and ran fresh oil through it until only clean oil came out. Sprayed some WD40 into the spark plug hole and was able to free the motor. The starter spins but doesn't engage the flywheel. In the event that I can't get this engine to start, Am I able to swap in another riding mower or push mower engine? I've read that the original Tecumseh engines were pretty unreliable. The original engine had 7hp per a few sites I found so I figure an upgrade, or a decent used engine would be inexpensive and less of a hassle.
