Blade mounting confusion

I've been reading a lot of Lawn Boys tech material the last few days. It says mount the blade for a D600 engine perpendicular to the piston, but mount the blade parallel with the piston for an F100 engine. Why is there a difference?

As I recall there were 2 blade adapters that fit the crank shaft... they had the key way 90 degrees apart...
It was to allow the blade to be an external balance...

I've not come across a lawn boy with the crank having a keyway on the blade side? I'm not sure why there's a difference between blade mounting on the D and F, but I just go with what the book says.

Thanks, Kenny V and Fireman 123. I'm new to the forum as of a couple of days ago. I posted a hello and introduction this morning. I just got two 5247's (1980). One has 105 lbs compression and the other has 35 lbs compression. I've got to get the good one running because my faithful 5241 (1973) died a few days ago. It still has 95 lbs compression, but the coil went out. It's great to see nice fellows helping each other on this forum.
