I had the same problem, it was a coil, better off having them both replaced if you decide to fix it.

The techs at the shop were stumped I think-had not seen this type of issue before. They did check the coil, and pretty much everything you could think of before deciding on the carb. If you read my first update after the fix, they thought it had just sucked up 'something' that basically took out the carb due to hubby running it dry once. Knock on wood, it's been normal since then. They had it long enough, at any rate!:smile:

I also have a 72" Super Z which is having a similar problem, when it heats up it loses power and wants to shut down, the 'check engine' light comes on.
One thing I noticed is the muffler had been bent, probably backed into a tree or something, and was too close to the coil. I straightened the muffler to it's original position but noticed the coil had a melt spot.
Could the coil have been damaged and causing this problem?
