Hi,

Looking to make a purchase this week-end. I've got my eye on these two mainly based on the opinions here: Honda HRR216VKA Review

I have about 0.4 acres to mow, and am a total amateur. Basically I'm soliciting advice.

Is the extra $300 worth buying the HRX217HXA?
Does anyone think there is a better value for a self-propelled?

Is the 3.25" cut height going to work okay for you? I imagine it will. Is the handlebar too low? If you can get by with those issues, I'd save the $300.00 and go for the less expensive mower.

Both are very good mowers.

The HRX has a larger motor 190 verses the 160 on the HRR. It will handle long grass better.

The HRX also has a plastic deck, separate blade clutch and a little better controls. But, with all of the extra features it weighs 96 lb versus 83 for the HRR.

For a large lawn or if you let the grass get long the HRX will be worth the extra money.

Let's try apples to apples here. You've got one of the cheaper hondas (which is still nice) compared to the next level up with a blade brake clutch. You need to add in the two that fall between so you can compare equivalent models in their different product lines. There's the HRR216VXA for $499 with a BBC. I have this one and it's been great. Then there's the HRX217VKA that doesn't have a BBC but does have a nexite deck and 190cc engine for $599.

The three main features that change in the bunch are the BBC, nexite deck, and engine size. Decide what features you want and are willing to pay for and you've got 4 great options to choose from in $100 increments.

HRR216VKA $399
HRR216VXA $499 +BBC
HRX217VKA $599 +nexite +190cc
HRX217HXA $699 +nexite +190cc +BBC
