Hello Gents,
My push mower finally blew up last season (water main cover may have had a little to do with it  ) and I have been back and forth on several mowers. I think I've landed on a Toro Timecutter, but would like some insight. I'm opting for the twin engine over the ss4200 because I believe for a few hundred $ its a no brainer. I'm now between the SS4225 and the MX4200. It's only a $300 difference... BUT thats all it was between the SS4200 and SS4225 so now I'm $600 over my original starting point. Anyway. I have right around 1 acre. Is the only difference in the MX the transmission? Is it worth it? Any insight would be great! THANKS!

I have a Timecutter, bought new in Aug. 2014, Last of the 4260 w/Kawasaki engine.. Love that baby.

I would definitely go for the V-twin over that single. I don't think that single has enough power, for real work.

As far as the hydros, the 4225 has the EZT 2100 w/3/4" axles. And the MX has EZT 2200 w/1" axles. & the welded deck, because it is heavier.

That's not bad for an extra $300. imo.

I have a 2017 SS4200 with the default 452cc Toro (Loncin) engine.

I don't mulch and I don't carry around a bagging system, so that engine is powerful enough for my needs. I also tow a small trailer carrying my push mower, trim cutter and fuel to reach a second property that I take care of. Nothing bad to say about this engine. Besides, the "upgrade" engine was much more expensive here.

About SS vs MX, SS has stamped steel deck vs MX's fabricated. The fabricated one should be more robust. MX seat is also nicer as it has some suspension and armrests.

Here in Canada, there is a big price difference between these two Toro lines of zero turns. If you really have only 300$ difference, get the MX. Had the difference been that close, I would have.

However, I can't say anything bad about the SS line, I really like operating this machine.

Actually I just checked out Toro's website, it appears the SS4225 has the V-Twin engine by default. :)

I'd be watching the Dealerships, around here, in August my Toro Dealer has a year end sale. They want to make room for the new 2019 models to be coming in.
I got $400. off my rig.
