My husband has an old Toro that still runs great but the trailing flap is broken on. We have a new flap but can't figure out how to get the old one off. It's on a metal bar that is bent over on each end. Is this even something that you can do yourself or is this a trip to the dealer?

To replace the grass shield, you must bend and straighten the rod, then pull it out. Takes a bit of muscle and it may break. If you break it or cut it off, I have seen people who have taken a wire clothes hanger to fabricate a new rod. Works fairly well.

Thank you for replying. He actually ended up cutting the rod at the bend making him able to pull it through. Then tried to recrimp the end after new flap was on. It was breaking little pieces off so he just put a drop of gorilla glue on the end. We'll see how that holds up.
