Hello, I am new here.

I have a Murray push mower that has a briggs and stratton engine so I am not too sure if this post belongs here.

The push mower will not idle correctly or at least how I think it should.

When pull started, the mower will surge idle. High, low, high, low, and repeat constantly.

I have purchased another carburetor which did not solve my issue.

> Went outside to try something else.

Just noticed this lawn mower doesn't have a blade on it. Maybe that is it.

Never mind, I was able to solve my problem.

The blade being on helped a lot but I went forward with installing a new spring as well.

When I started the mower after the blade being installed, the idle seemed perfect. I started toying with the spring to see if I could get it to idle up just a little and that's when the surging began again which is why I replaced the spring.

They will not run properly without a blade on.
Usually you can not even start them without the blade.

Well this one did start. I am not sure who took the blade off but all is right with that mower. Thanks for the help.

It did. Assuming what you're talking about is the pull string suddenly jerking from my hand.
It only happened once in the entire time I was wrenching on it.

Just googled what kickback was and what is the result of it. You're thinking the key sheared?
