gravely chatter

I have a gravely zt at home and work. older models both. when going uphill or accelerating quickly, the mower "chatters" like something is slipping. noticed some play in the idler pulleys and belt is moderately worn. do you think the belt is slipping bc of the idler pulley and wear? also I don't know exactly when the fluid level is correct in the drive motors.
