I previously had a grasshopper ztr and my brother has one now. Anyway the transmission fluid cost in the neighborhood of $12 a quart. I am very tempted to try Amsoil Synthetic transmission fluid at about half the cost. Has anyone tried this? I have used their products for about everything else.

Most hydrostatic transmissions use synthetic motor oil. Mobil 1 is suggested by several manufactures. American Lubricating has a specific hydrostatic transmission fluid that is available a most mower shops that buy from Rotary. The part number is 11589.
