I hit a tree root while mowing last week. I finally managed to get the flywheel off and I had a broken key.

I replaced the flywheel key and cleaned up the underside of the flywheel.

I got the mower back together, but the engine speed seems less than normal and it is still running tough. I'm not sure that the crankshaft is bent, as it's not vibrating uncontrollably.

I am in the process of getting a torque wrench so I can properly torque the blade and flywheel nut, but I don't think that's the issue.

Have any ideas?

If the flywheel wasn't properly tightened after replacing the key, you could of offset or resheared the key on start or shutdown.

I'll have to see how it is after I can torque things properly.

When the mower stops...it almost sounds like there's metal contacting metal somewhere....but I've spun the blade around and there is no contact with the blade and the deck.
