Hello,

How much motor oil does the Troy-bilt junior tiller take? It has the 4.0 Tecumseh (HS40-55580L) engine. The plastic fill port plug has no dipstick, so I have no way of knowing how much oil is in it. Also looks like there are drain plugs on both sides of the engine.

Regards

Jeff

Most of the small tecumseh engines were around 20 ounces the full mark is when you fill it up and it runs out of the fill hole. Top thread is full.

Thanks for the reply. Yep, about 21 ounces of oil brings it up to the bottom threads. I wanted to double check, because this engine has a gear box on it with two PTO shafts (one for the reverse).

It starts up ok, but backfires on the high speed setting.

I cleaned out the carb as best as I could. Also replaced the spark plug, and messed with the high and low speed needles. It now runs about as good as a 28 year old Tecumseh will,,,lol.

Jeff
