I recently had the engine blow a piston on my 2012 Toro Titan TimeCutter ZX 5020 and am looking at replacing the mower. I wasn't happy with the Toro and have narrowed my choices to the Scag Patriot and the Kubota 421. The same dealer is located nearby and sells both. My property is about 3 acres in Upstate New York of wild grasses, turf, under tree grasses. The Toro always seemed underpowered I'm often mowing in wet conditions once-a-week. There is also a small orchard that we mow when grass is 8".

The prices I've been quoted are $6,099 for the Scag & $6,650 for the Kubota.

Specs:
Scag: 52" deck, 22hp kawasaki kx engiine; 22" tires; 8.5 mph, 3 yr warranty
Kubota: 54" deck, 24hp kawasaki ks engine; 24" tires; 10 mph, 4 yr warranty

Step up to the 61" patriot, with the summer sale it is $6599. The 61"has upgraded trannies over the 52", so 3100 vs 3400 or 8 vs 10 mph and 23" drive tires. I am hard pressed to find a better machine for the money now that the Patriots are on sale.
