I have a Troy-Bilt TB360. There is a metal grinding noise, almost like the blade is clipping the blade housing, whenever weight is applied to the rear of the mower. When just pushing the mower it's not bad but as the grass bag fills up and the weight increases, it gets worse. The sound immediately stops when lifting up on the push handle.

when looking at the blade housing there are no scrapes that you would expect if the blade was striking it.

Thoughts?

You don't say what engine is one your mower. There are cases where the briggs engines with the SUSA starter, which is the model with the starter cup on top of the flywheel. When the handle is pushed down can pull the starter rope that is attached to the upper handle out far enough to cause the starter pawls to contact the spinning metal starter cup on the engine.
