The two are not connected as crank case pressure pluses come from gas flows under the piston and the valves control gas flow above the piston.
Thus adjusting the valve lash will not affect the opperation of the fuel pump, which works both on pressure increase ( as the piston goes down ) and pressure decrease ( when the piston goes up ).
Damp your finger & put it over the line to the fuel pump. you should be able to feel the pulses .
Note the impulse line is the one in the top of the pump, the input is the one on the side nearest the impulse line & the outlet is on the other side.
A fuel pump has a one way valve ( better ones have 2 ) so if hooked up wrong will not work.
