I have a Kawasaki FB460v on an old Ferris mower. It's one of the ones that has a pull-cord start, not electric.

I was cutting our grass this morning, and suddenly it putt-putted and died. Now it won't run for more than a few seconds every 10 minutes or so. Any ideas why?

It is either going to be the coil or a fuel starvation problem.
Get an inline spark tester and check for a spark.
If you have none, pull the blower housing off and remove the kill wire then repeat.
Spark returns = short in wire or faulty switch
No spark = Faulty module, replace it.

Sparks all the time , pull the fuel tank, clean it and the fuel lines and carb.
I have made an assumption that you have a gravity fed carb.
Otherwise check the supply from the pump to the carb by removing the fuel line and cranking the engine.
Should fill a small jar in under a minute.
