I need to increase the RPM of my 1972 Lawn Boy. Over the past few years the RPM has decreased. I understand this is controlled by a governor on the top of the engine. Can anyone advise if this is adjustable? I have been told that the parts for the governor are obsolete? Is this true?

I am no Lawnboy expert of that vintage but do have a few newer ones. Look on top of the carb there is what is known as a air vane. It looks like a curved plastic blade. At the base of that is a notched plastic disc. With engine off turn the disc a few clicks( 50 rpm/click) start mower and see if rpms increase or decrease and if they went down repeat but turn disc in opposite direction. The disc is spring loaded and the spring has probably weakened over the years.... good luck
