Someone just gave me a 42" Craftsman Tractor Mod # 917.259546 with the 15.5 Kohler Command engine. The trans-axle is shot. Sears is no help? Gonna go search Peerless now. Any help out there?

I swapped a Peerless 206 into my former craftsman 917xxxx years ago. Mostly direct bolt in, but did need a couple specific brackets.

Sears would probably either have you buy a new transaxle or probably more likely, a new tractor. It either needs to have oil added or just changed. The problem is that you cannot refill these things unless you remove the axle from the tractor. I just did it so I know.

If it has a Dana 6800, like mine did, there is a place to add fluid, under the battery, & you need to also remove the belt drive & drive pulley, it is a rubber plug.

Mine got to leaking so bad I was adding straight STP.

Mine is a Hydrogear. I think it's plain sabotage to not provide a way to fill these things.

I agree with ya, should be a way to fill. Not familiar with your model tho.

I guess Hydrogears aren't as common as I thought they were. It otherwise looks well built.

Maybe not on the tractors, IDK ? But on the zero turns, that is the most common name in rear pumps.

OK, makes sense zero turns having them considering the hydraulics they have.
