I had a drive belt break on my craftsman mower the other day so I thought no big deal I will just replace it. About an hour mowing on the new belt, I felt a couple forward jumps and then no going forward. Shut off the engine and looked at the engine pulley and it was smoking from a broken belt. I have tested the guide pulleys for the drive belt and they all turn fine. Only other thing I am thinking is the transaxle. Could this be the problem? I have about 350 hours on it.

We need the model number off the sticker under the seat. Craftsman 22hp means nothing.

Jack up the rear end and spin the wheels and report your findings.

Belts smoke because they are stationary on a pulley that is spinning.
Thus something had jambed the belt or the belt went too loose
