It is a Tecumseh engine. When you take off the plastic shroud you should find a model number on the metal shroud.

The engine #s should be visible without removing anything. They will normally be just above the spark plug, stamped into the metal of the blower housing (the part the recoil starter bolts to). The problem I see with this engine is that the blower housing is painted the wrong color (should be white). This makes me think it could be from a different engine or possibly a new replacement. If it is the latter it won't have any #s. If it came from another engine it will be a tossup when trying to get parts for it.

Thanks for the input all! I had a friend confirm that it is a Tecumseh. I took the plastic shroud off and didn't find any numbers. So, it does look like it may have been replaced once upon a time like Mow Joe said.

Hope the model number tag is still on the mower deck. Use the model number to look up a parts manual. Snapper usually list engine model and type used.
