I read about a lot of people adjusting valves. Over the years, I have only had a few small engines that had adjustable valves. Today--I have a 1982 Wheel Horse with twin 17.5, and an old Gravely G16 twin. Neither has adjustable valves. Years ago, I had a 16 HP B&S cast iron single that I rebuilt that didn't have adjustable valves. Grinding valve stems, for clearance, is just a cheap way to manufacture and engine.
Out of curosity--Does any one know of a list of small engines that have adjustable valves?

i dont think you can do the valves on L-heads[flat-heads]........if it has rockers without hydraulic lifters ...they should be adjustable

A lot of old flat head Fords and farm equipment had the adjuster on the lifter. The lifter was threaded and used a simple bolt and lock nut to adjust. I'm just realizing how old I am.
