Just picked up a Murray 38710A mower. After a carb replacement the Tecumseh 13hp runs strong. Took the slop out of the steering. The deck just needed new blades and a grease job. Only problem now is in the 205-510D transmission. I drained what little 90 weight was still in it and noticed there was a lot of fine bronze particles suspended in it. Refilled, and re-installed. Runs and shifts fine. Problem is there is a lot of play. When not running but in gear I can push it forward and backwards a couple inches. Same slop when using mower.
Can't find a replacement 205-510D so was wondering: Is there an alternative 5-speed that will bolt up to this mower? Any ideas?

This place usually has a good turn-around on new stock if you're not in a hurry...

OR theres the Yellow-Pages ..search for Lawn-mower Salvage yards ... SHOULD be a few in your area
AND finally you can resort to ...Craigs-List OR E-BAY ....

Yeah, I've tried Ebay. Surplus Center, is a good idea! I'll keep an eye on it for sure. Thanks for the tip, Boobala.
Having said that....I was hoping there might be a different 5 speed that would bolt up here. Maybe something a little newer.
Local used dealer has the exact same mower for sale, in much better condition but 3 bills is out of my league.

I have been fortunate enough to NOT have to go into a trans ...YET !! But there is several members who have ...
we do have manuals available and members with advice ... if you feel like tackling the job yourself... you can always take
a look inside if you're gonna trash the old trans anyway...
