I have replacing 33m877 with a 33s877, there is a missing wire in the molex connector that connects the eng to the mower wiring harness, I traced it back to the oil sending unit on the old eng. The question I have is will the new eng need me to move this from old to new before it will start? Thanks in advance for your time.

Recheck your model number on your mower. The 33M877 doesn't show up in the briggs system. Also if possible give the model, type of both engines for comparison. it is possible that you may need to move the wiring harness from the old engine to the new.

You are sooo correct, it was a 33m677 and I replaced it with a 33s877 so that made me confuse the numbers. I moved the oil pressure sending unit from the old eng to the new one and popped the pin out of the cable on the old to wire the new one... all is workign fine with 1 exception. On my mower and all mowers as far as I know, you have to run them at full throttle to keep the blade speed up. This new engine is acting like it has a governor set to low... when I put it at high throttle it seems to kick in and throttle it down unless I am actually loading up the mower by cutting grass. Any ideas on how to make it act like the old one? Ok I jut reread your reply, the old model was a 33m677 0123 g1, I replaced it with a 33s877 0018 g1.

From what I can derive is the your 33M677-0123-g1 is governored at 3600, whereas the new 33S877-0018-g1 is governored at 3300. So you will to adjust the tension on the governor spring to bring it up to speed. Don't attempt without use of a tach, because you don't want to overspeed.

Thanks for the reply! I have a maintenance manual on order as well as recently downloaded the pdf... dont have a tach but will order one. Any recommendations for one.

so the tach confirmed the engine was running about 3200 rpm, ajusting the governor sprint tab has it running at about 3520... I had it at 3630 and decided it was better to error on th elow side than the high side. Thanks again for the information.
