I want to replace my engine, a cv20s 65593 kohler, and want a plug and go replacement with no modifications. I have been told the a kohler cv640 3039 would do it. Does anyone know for sure?

Provided the PTO shaft is the same diameter and length and the alternator has the same or higher output you will have no problems.
The throttle control plates are all interchangable and all have the same mounting centers so if that motor is set up for a single throttle and seperate choke and your mower has a combined one you just swap the entire plate.
One of the nice things about Kohlers is nearly all of them have the same wiring plug so it makes swapping engines a lot easier.
