The drum is held in by the circlip
Get your digital camera out and photograph the unit every time you take a part off.
The front & back simply pull apart then the circlip comes out and the drum comes off
If the drum is gone then usually the springs on the clutch are gone as well.
usual practice is drum & clutch as a unit.

Thank you for that information! My next problem is how did I get the circlip out!? It is recessed deep in the fan housing. Any suggestions? Special tools needed??

NO...NO...NO.. Chuck......... It's NOT a Cir-clip It's an expansion -contraction spring clip...
usually you can get a hook tool under the center of the clip and strong pulling will pop it free ( gotta be careful the da** thing don't go flying across the room ) or sometimes you can get 2 small screwdriver blades under the ends and pop up they can be real boogers at times ...anyway that's MY method of removal ..Boobala

I guess I should have included a picture of a long flat head screw driver. I push the to ends apart then use a screw driver on the back side to pry it out. I always put my hand over it so when it goes flying it hits my hand.
