Just got my first Snapper. Had Toros so this one is wearing me out getting used to it. Biggest problems are making stops to turn it and going down slopes. When doing the turns I let go of the lever and going down slopes is the hardest. Any tips would be appreciated.
Also would it be a good idea to sharpen the ninja blades since they're brand new? Thank you.

Are the blades sharp, or do they have a thick painted edge? I don't have much experience with Snappers, but the only Ninja blade I ever ordered came sharp.

Does the mower want to move without engaging the self propel? Or when you let off the SP, does it stop on its own? Most likely it needs new belts and pulleys.

Going down hill. gravity is pulling the mower down. Don't know of any push mower that has brakes on them to slow you down.

Yes sharpen every blade you have. It's just like shaving your face. You want the sharpest edge you can get. A mower is only good with a sharp blade.
