2009 cub cadet ltx 1046 will not start

first of all the mower was given to me without battery as payment for some work. i hooked car battery up to mower cables through jumper cables. the dash on mower reads about 14 volts when i turn key. i set parking brake, disengaged blades and pto, sat on seat, and turn key. what happens next is the mower does about a half crank and stops. also the battery light comes on. one more thing there is a green wire in the battery compartment with a connector on the end of it. what is it? where does it go? any help would b greatly appreciated. if i cant get this thing started guess i did a free drywall job. anyways thanks for ur help in advance.

First remove the spark plug and try again.
Engine spins freely then you need to adjust the valves.
Fuel /oil spews out mower was tipped the wrong way or float valve mal functioning.
